ALL ABOUT MADE WELL MAMA PHYSICAL THERAPY & WELLNESS

Supporting, empowering and caring for Mama's the way they so selflessly care for others

Hi! I'm Dr. Lindsay Wiggins, physical therapist and founder of Made Well Mama Physical Therapy & Wellness located in Richmond, VA. I graduated from James Madison University in 2006 (Go Dukes!) and from Virginia Commonwealth University with my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree in 2011. I am a boy mama of two, Weston (7 years old) and Camden (3 years old) and wife to my husband Eric and dog mama to our hound/lab mix, Chloe! We live in the near west end of Richmond and you can find us riding scooters and bikes around the Libbie Grove area enjoying all our favorite restaurants, playgrounds and Richmond activities!

I began my career in outpatient Orthopedics, treating different musculoskeletal conditions and sports injuries. While working in the outpatient setting, I continued my training  in treating sports injuries and athletes and was also certified in the Sportsmetrics ACL Injury Prevention Program. I helped implement this program at the University of Richmond, working with the Women's Soccer and Basketball teams during preseason conditioning and assisted OrthoVirginia in beginning their sports performance and wellness program.

After having my first child in 2016, I shifted settings and began working as a home health physical therapist which provided me with a good work-home balance. During this time, I became increasingly interested in pelvic floor physical therapy and prenatal/postpartum rehabilitation after I was given the "green light" to return to activities as normal from my OBGYN at 6 weeks postpartum. I quickly returned to running and high intensity workouts feeling great mentally (and physically initially!) but was unaware my body physically was not ready until I began experiencing my own pelvic floor issues. When I became pregnant with my second baby, I was determined to do things differently. With the support and guidance from a wonderful physical therapist, I had a great postpartum rehab journey and safely returned to all the activities I loved. I experienced the lack of  knowledge, awareness and support for postpartum mothers first hand. Even as a physical therapist, I still had so many questions; if I needed guidance, I realize there are many mamas out there that also need support!

I have continued post-doctoral training regarding pelvic floor, prenatal and postpartum rehabilitation through the Herman & Wallace Pelvic Rehabilitation Institute, the Institute For Birth Healing and am certified as a Pregnancy & Postpartum Corrective Exercise Specialist. Throughout my own rehabilitation, I found it difficult to find the flexibility for outpatient appointments. Between working part time, all things encompassing baby (like feedings and nap time!), finding childcare for my other son and taking care of my family, time was hard to come by. By providing convenient mobile (I come to you in your home!) and virtual appointments, my hope is that more Mamas can make pelvic floor, prenatal and postpartum rehabilitation a priority. My goal is to bridge the gap between you and your OBGYN, return you to the things you love to do safely, prevent injuries/issues and to empower and care for  Mama's the same way they care for others. I look forward to working with you throughout your journey!
